How to Care for Leather So It Lasts Decades
Posted on
Leather is a natural material, and like all natural materials, it benefits from proper care. Fortunately, caring for leather doesn’t require complicated routines — just consistency and respect for the material.
The most important rule is protection from extremes. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can dry leather out, while excessive moisture can weaken fibres. When not in use, leather goods should be stored in a cool, dry place with airflow.
Cleaning should always be gentle. A soft, dry cloth removes dust and surface dirt. For deeper care, a quality leather conditioner replenishes natural oils, maintaining flexibility and preventing cracks.
Avoid harsh chemicals or household cleaners. These strip the leather’s natural oils and shorten its lifespan. Less is more when it comes to maintenance.
With minimal effort, leather goods can remain functional, strong, and visually appealing for decades — developing character rather than damage.
